Wildlife Count by Debbie O'Rourke: Humber Bay Park East, Toronto

south side of Wildlife Count log, Humber Bay Park East, Toronto

:The sun is breaking out behind me- its fantastic. The only other humans, a couple down the beach who seemed to be doing a brief ceremony, are suddenly bathed in light, while thunder rumbles in the distance. In the dubious period just after heavy showers, the only people present had compelling reasons: me to carve, the pair to--who knows?

When the log is wet, the design leaps out. The new carving is a raw yellow: the freshly-cut areas have so many colours in them, they look painterly.
