An Incredible Opportunity... |

In August of 2002, I was awarded a grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, for a residency program with Caribbean Contemporary Arts in Trinidad. |

The more I read about Trinidad, the more excited I became. My first love as a child had been biology. I'd wanted above all else to go to the Amazon and, geographically, Trinidad is like a miniature South America. Though my home base would be Caribbean Contemporary Arts in Port of Spain, I set my sights on the rainforest. Two months isn't long to find a receptive community and make them a sculpture, so I decided to get off to a running start with a few days of research at a nature centre in the Northern Range of Trinidad. |

After a midnight flight from the frozen asphalt of Toronto to tropical Trinidad, I was met at the plane by a driver from the Asa Wright Nature Centre. I will never forget the wonder of that first drive into the rain-forest... |
