The robin-sized Great Kiskadee kept me company everywhere I went in Trinidad, from Asa Wright to my neighbourhood in Port of Spain. He slept in later than I did. His morning call sounded shocked, like he'd just fallen out of bed. |

Too soon, it was time to leave the Asa Wright Nature Centre where, under the tutelage of the guides, birds had become my link to a known world. But I had hopes of seeing everyone again: Asa Wright manager Mr. Julien said he would tell his education officer about me. So the project was off to a great start. |
