Monarch Butterfly on Branch, Manitoulin Island, Canda 1990

A butterfly treads lightly on its environment. That is the stage where it returns the gift of life passed on to it by the plants. In its lighter-than-air travels it pollinates, making possible the next generation of foster-parents for its descendants. Milkweed Patch commemorates a fragile wonder of our world, the migrating monarch, that may disappear in the next decade. It is also a reminder, in these times when crisis often seems to overwhelm us, of the strength of butterflies.
